History

Abingdon Mercantile & Frame Gallery, located in Depot Square in historic
Abingdon, Virginia occupies a captivating 120-year-old structure.  For many years this
three-story building served as a soft bed and hot meal stop for weary travelers.  The old
hotel building, situated just a few yards from the former Railway Passenger Station,
was considered the heart of activity in early Abingdon.

This building is now owned by J.H. Combs, Jr., a
Washington County native who
began an ambitious renovation project in May of 1987.  The Abingdon Mercantile &
Frame Gallery opened the following September, offering a truly unique emporium of
gifts, artwork and custom framing.
