History

The Abingdon Mercantile & Frame Gallery,
located Depot Square in
Abingdon, occupies a
captivating 120-year-old structure.  For many
years this three-story building served as a soft
bed and hot meal stop for weary travelers.  The
old hotel building, situated just a few yards from
the former Railway Passenger Station, was
considered the heart of activity in early Abingdon.

This building is now owned by J.H. Combs Jr, a
Washington County native who began an
ambitious renovation project there in May of
1987.  The Abingdon Mercantile & Frame
Gallery opened the following September, offering
a truly unique emporium of gifts, artwork and
custom framing.
